Nirguṇa brahman (devanāgarī: निर्गुण ब्रह्मन्, nirguṇa brahman) est un terme composé de nirguṇa qui signifie en sanskrit, en hindi (et dans d'autres langues indiennes), « dépourvu de qualités »[1] ou « sans qualité » [2], « sans les trois qualités (sat, rajas, tamas) » [2] et de Brahman qui veut dire « Dieu » [2] ou encore « au-delà de tout attribut » [2] (nirguṇa peut signifier aussi « vicieux, mauvais »[1], mais en sanskrit uniquement, et, dans ce cas, il ne désigne pas le nirguṇa brahman [3] ; en Inde, aujourd'hui, nirguṇa signifie toujours, dans le sens courant, nirguṇa brahman, c'est-à-dire « Dieu (sans forme) »). Dans la philosophie indienne, nirguṇa brahman désigne le Divin transcendant non manifesté ou encore l'Absolu et s'oppose à saguṇa brahman[1].
Nirguṇa brahman dans le Vedānta
Dans le Vedānta et plus particulièrement dans l'Advaita Vedānta, nirguṇa brahman correspond à la Conscience pure[4] universelle qui est sans attribut ou sans qualification.
