Le festival se déroule durant la deuxième semaine de juin et dure trois jours. Il accueille également de nombreux groupes de metal mais aussi de punk rock et de rock alternatif.

Histoire
Le Download Festival a été créé en 2003 pour succéder au Monsters of Rock qui avait lieu au Donington Park de 1980 à 1996. Le festival reprend donc le même emplacement et dure 2 jours (3 jours depuis 2005).
