La British Psychoanalytical Society (BPS), la société britannique de psychanalyse, fut fondée en 1919 par Ernest Jones. Elle succède à la London Psychoanalytical Society dissoute suite au départ des analystes d'obédience jungienne.
Entre novembre 1940 et février 1944, la BPS est le lieu de fameuses disputes. Elles opposent les kleiniens, les annafreudiens ; un Middle Group en émerge, qui sera également nommé les indépendants.
