Prénom et son origine

Cyrille, Cyril (au masculin) ou encore Cyrielle (au féminin) est un prénom d'origine grecque ; il provient de Kyrillos, dérivé de Kyrios qui signifie « seigneur ».

Il est porté en l'honneur de plusieurs saints importants de l'histoire chrétienne.

Les Cyril, Cyrille, Cyrielle, etc. sont fêtés notamment le 14 février, mais aussi le 18 mars ou le 27 juin.

La forme anglaise Cyril, plus populaire, est préférée à la forme française « Cyrille », plus distinguée mais parfois considérée comme féminine, puisqu'elle se rapproche beaucoup de l'écriture de « Cyrielle ».
