HAL Laboratory, Inc. est un studio de développement de jeux vidéo japonais appartenant à Nintendo. HAL Laboratory a été fondé le 21 février 1980, le nom HAL provenant de l'ordinateur HAL 9000 du film 2001, l'odyssée de l'espace. La compagnie est célèbre pour avoir développé la série des Kirby et des Super Smash Bros..

Au début des années 1980, la compagnie développait exclusivement sur MSX. Ce n'est qu'à partir de 1986 que HAL commença a développer sur Famicom (plus particulièrement sur Famicom Disk System) et devint développeur interne de Nintendo.

Durant la première moitié des années 1990, la compagnie a utilisé le nom HALKEN, dérivé du japonais HAL Kenkyūjo (Kenkyūjo signifiant en japonais laboratoire). La compagnie possède également une filiale américaine nommée HAL America.

L'actuel président de Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, était auparavant président de Hal Laboratory.
