Né à Vienne en 1897, mort en 1946 à Los Angeles, Otto Fenichel est un médecin et psychanalyste autrichien.
Il a été lié au cercle de Freud dès 1918. Il a fait son analyse avec Paul Federn puis une autre tranche avec Sandor Rado à Berlin. Exilé en 1933 au Danemark puis à Prague et enfin aux États-Unis. Il a en effet été partout très actif pour la psychanalyse, les institutions et la formation, il a en effet été marqué par son passage à l'Institut psychanalytique de Berlin. Il était aussi sensibilisé à un engagement vis-à-vis des dimensions sociales et politiques de la pratique (freudo-marxisme).
