Hassen Rahma ou Hasan al-Rammah (mort vers 1295) est un savant du XIIIe siècle originaire de Syrie. Il est le premier chimiste arabe à fabriquer des substances explosives. La poudre fut inventée en Chine et Hassen Rahma va l'améliorer et en préciser par écrit la formule, dans son ouvrage al-furusiyya wa al-manasib al-harbiyya[1]. Il va également élaborer la première fusée au monde.

- La torpille fut inventée en premier par Hassen Rahma au XIIIe siècle. L'engin volait et flottait au-dessus de l'eau et il explosait dès qu'il touchait le navire visé par les troupes arabes. L'explosion était déclenchée lors du contact avec la cible[2]. Richard Windley reproduira le modèle des torpilles du XIIe siècle.
