L'abréviation Idex, pour « initiative d'excellence », désigne en France des projets de recherche scientifique destinés à « faire émerger en France 5 à 10 pôles pluridisciplinaires d'excellence d'enseignement supérieur et de recherche de rang mondial »[1]. Ces projets sont financés à hauteur de 7.7 milliard d'euros par le grand emprunt.

Laurent Wauquiez a annoncé le 5 juillet 2011 les trois premiers projets retenus : Ceux de Paris Sciences et Lettres, Université de Strasbourg et Université de Bordeaux[3].
