India Pale Ale (IPA) est un style de bière à fermentation haute d'origine anglaise. Les IPA ont été développées au XVIIIe siècle pour l'exportation, notamment pour approvisionner les troupes coloniales britanniques en Inde. Elle contiennent plus d'alcool et de houblon que les autres ales, ce qui leur permet de mieux se conserver durant le long voyage. L'adjectif « pale » fait référence à leur couleur, plus claire que les porters populaires en Angleterre à l'époque, même si elle est généralement plus foncée que celle des lager qui dominent le marché de la bière à l'heure actuelle.
