Gustav Ludwig Hertz (22 juillet 1887 à Hambourg, Allemagne - 30 octobre 1975 à Berlin) est un physicien allemand. Neveu de Heinrich Rudolf Hertz, il fut colauréat avec James Franck du Prix Nobel de physique de 1925 « pour leur découverte des lois régissant la collision d'un électron sur un atome[1] ».

Biographie

Il étudie à l'Université Martin-Luther de Halle-Wittenberg et travaille à l'Université technique de Berlin et devient directeur. Quand les nazi arrivent au pouvoir, ils rétrogradent Gustav Ludwig Hertz parce qu'il est d'origine juive au deuxième rang.

Alors il quitte Siemens comme directeur de recherche. Gustav continue ses recherches en ultrason.
