Notes

  • Après être venu à bout du "débutant" Nigel Mansell lors de l'ultime restart (le Britannique paye son inexpérience en se faisant également surprendre par Arie Luyendyk lors de cette phase de course) Emerson Fittipaldi gagne son deuxième Indy 500.
  • La tradition à Indianapolis veut que le vainqueur reçoive une bouteille de lait et en boive quelques gorgées au moment de la remise du trophée: Emerson Fittipaldi provoque un mini-scandale en remplaçant le lait par du jus d'orange, et cela afin d'assurer la promotion de sa plantation d'agrumes au Brésil. Le Brésilien consentira à honorer la tradition lactée quelques minutes plus tard, mais après que les caméras se soient détournées de lui.
