Royal College of Art

Le Royal College of Art (RCA) est une université de Londres, Angleterre. Il s'agit de la seule école au monde à proposer des études post-graduées dans le domaine des arts, du design et de la communication. Avec la HGKZ de Zurich et le California Institute of Art, il est l'une des plus prestigieuses écoles d'art du monde. Plusieurs figures majeures ont successivement dirigé ses départements, comme Quentin Blake en illustration ou Wim Crouwel en design graphique.

Histoire

Le Royal College of Art est établi en 1837 sous le nom de Government School of Design. En 1853 il prend le nom de National Art Training School avec la Female School of Art dans un établissement séparé. C'est en 1896 qu'il acquiert le nom de Royal College of Art. En 1967, une Charte royale lui fut accordée, ce qui lui octroya le statut d'université indépendante.
