Le Tyne-et-Wear (en anglais Tyne and Wear) est un comté métropolitain du nord-est de l'Angleterre le long des estuaires des fleuves côtiers Tyne et Wear. Le Tyne and Wear est bordé à l'est par la mer du Nord, au nord par le Northumberland et au sud par le comté de Durham.
Il a été créé comme comté métropolitain en 1974 après le vote du Local Government Act de 1972.
Divisions administratives
Il est divisé en 5 districts métropolitains qui sont :
- District métropolitain de Gateshead
- Newcastle upon Tyne
- North Tyneside
- South Tyneside
- Cité de Sunderland
Comme dans chaque comté métropolitain, le Tyne and Wear County Council a été aboli en 1986, ses districts métropolitains sont donc maintenant effectivement des autorités autonomes. Cependant, le comté métropolitain continue à avoir une existence juridique et comme structure géographique de référence.
Le territoire du comté de Tyne and Wear se répartissaient auparavant entre les comtés du Northumberland et Durham.
