Herbert Henry Asquith, (12 septembre 1852 – 15 février 1928), 1er comte d'Oxford et Asquith, fut un homme politique britannique, Premier ministre de 1908 à 1916.
Son mandat fut marqué par des changements sociaux notables parmi lesquels la création du National Insurance and Pensions.
Asquith déclara la guerre à l'Allemagne le 4 août 1914 à la suite de l'invasion de la Belgique.
Fonction de député
Élu au Parlement sous l'étiquette libérale en 1886.
Fonction ministérielle
- Ministre de l'Intérieur en 1892.
- Ministre sans portefeuille de 1895 à 1905, puis chancelier de l'Échiquier (1905-1908), il succéda au Premier ministre Henry Campbell-Bannerman en 1908.
