William Coxe (17 mars 1747, Londres - 8 juin 1828), historien anglais.
Biographie
Il accompagna sur le continent, comme précepteur, plusieurs jeunes gens de grande famille, obtint à son retour des bénéfices avantageux dans l'église anglicane et publia, outre la relation de ses voyages en Suisse, en Pologne, en Russie, etc., des ouvrages historiques estimés :
- une Histoire de la maison d'Autriche (1807, traduit par Pierre François Henry, 1810) ;
- une Histoire des Bourbons d'Espagne (1813).
Il a aussi édité les Mémoires de Robert Walpole et Horace Walpole et ceux du duc de Marlborough. William Coxe est devenu membre de la Royal Society le 14 février 1782.
