Gazi Ahmed Muhtar Pasha (ou Ahmed Muhtar Pasha) est un général et Grand vizir de l'Empire Ottoman.

Biographie

Il nait à Bursa dans l'actuelle Turquie et suit les cours de l'École Militaire Ottomane à İstanbul. Il est promu rapidement et il deviendra professeur et directeur de l'école.

Il sert comme adjudant en 1856 dans la guerre de Crimée, en 1862 comme officier dans la campagne du Monténégro et en 1870-1871 lors des répressions de la rébellion yéménites. Il obtient les titres de Pasha et Maréchal et est nommé en 1873 commandant de la Seconde Armée. Il dirige les forces turques lors du soulevement en Bosnie et en Herzégovine de 1873. Il est chargé des opérations en Erzurum lors de la guerre russo-turque de 1877-1878. Malgré la victoire russe, les victoires de Moukhtar sur le front de l'Est lui donnent le surnom de Ghazi (victorieux).

Il est nommé en 1879 commandant de la frontière greco-turque avant d'être envoyé en 1885 comme haut-commissaire en Égypte.

Il est promu Grand Vizir le 22 juillet 1912, en grande partie grâce à son statut de héros militaire mais il démissione le 29 octobre 1912 suite au déclenchement de la Première Guerre balkanique que son administration et lui n'avaient pas vu venir.

Ahmed Muhtar Pasha meurt le 21 janvier 1919.

Son fils, Mahmud Mukhtar Pasha, est un haut gradé de la marine ottomane et a tenu plusieurs portefeuilles ministériels.
