Stephen Arnold Douglas, né le 23 avril 1813 à Brandon (Vermont), et mort le 3 mai 1861 (à 48 ans) à Chicago, était un homme politique américain de l'Illinois, connu pour avoir fait voter l'acte Kansas-Nebraska en 1854. Il a battu Abraham Lincoln lors des élections sénatoriales de 1858 dans l'Illinois, avant d'être lui-même défait, en tant que candidat démocrate dans le Nord, à l'élection présidentielle de 1860.
