Dynamix, Inc. est une société américaine de développement de jeux vidéo qui a existé de 1984 à 2001, très connue pour ses simulateurs de vol, ses jeux de sport et son célèbre jeu en ligne multijoueurs : Tribes. Dynamix appartenait à la société Sierra.
Histoire
La compagnie a été fondée en 1983 à Eugene aux États-Unis par Jeff Tunnell et Damon Slye. Leur premier titre, Stellar 7, fut dans un premier temps développé alors que la compagnie n'existait pas, puis sortit de nouveau sous la marque Dynamix par la suite. Ils développèrent un certain nombre de jeux sur Commodore 64 dont Project Firestart qui fut considérer comme l'un de ceux possèdant la meilleure atmosphère sur cette plate-forme.
Les années suivantes, Dynamix développa un série de jeux vidéo d'action pour la société Electronic Arts parmi lesquels on retrouve l'un des premiers jeux sortis sur Amiga, Arcticfox. Ensuite, la société développa des jeux pour d'autres éditeurs tel qu'Activision par exemple. Après avoir publié leurs propres jeux pendant un court moment, Dynamix fut achété par Sierra On-Line en 1990.
Une fois intégré à Sierra, le studio Dynamix créa ses jeux vidéo les plus fameux (Red Baron, The Adventures of Willy Beamish, Tribes...).
Torque Game Engine
Article principal : Torque Game Engine.Certains membres initiaux de Dynamix ont créé GarageGames, un studio indépendant se consacrant au développement de moteurs de jeu ainsi qu'à la publication de jeux vidéo. Ils négocièrent le code source du moteur de jeu de Tribes 2 avec Sierra. Après avoir retravaillé le code, GarageGames sortit le moteur sous le nom de V12 mais on leur expliqua qu'un autre moteur de jeu portait déjà ce nom. Ils l'appelèrent donc Torque Game Engine (parfois abrégé TGE). Le code source est aujourd'hui accessible à n'importe qui pour un minimum de 100 $.
