Gilbert Stuart (North Kingstown, Rhode Island, 1755 - Boston, 1828) est un peintre américain.
Biographie
Gilbert Stuart est un portraitiste des débuts des États-Unis. Il est connu pour ses portraits d'hommes et de femmes célèbres en Amérique.
Après plusieurs séjours à Londres et Dublin, Stuart revient en Amérique en 1793 où il reste jusqu'à sa mort. Il réside à New York, Philadelphie, Washington et Boston. Une grande partie de ses œuvres est aujourd'hui conservée à la National Gallery of Art de Washington.
