George Oppen

George Oppen est un poète américain, né à Nouvelle-Rochelle (New York) en 1908, mort à Sunnyvale (Californie) en 1984.

Biographie

Il est le fils de George August Oppenheimer, diamantaire de métier et de Elsie Rothfeld. Oppen a quatre ans quand sa mère se suicide. Son père se remarie en 1917 et la famille déménage à San Francisco l'année suivante.

Il a fait partie du mouvement objectiviste avec Louis Zukofsky, Marianne Moore, William Carlos Williams, Ezra Pound, Charles Reznikoff et Kenneth Rexroth.
