Erchempert ou Herempert (Erchempertus en latin; Erchemperto en italien), était un moine de l'abbaye du Mont-Cassin, écrivain et historien, probablement d'origine lombarde, peut-être d'origine noble, vivant au IXe siècle.
Biographie
Erchempert serait né aux environs de Castrum Pilanum, petite cité située près de l'actuelle ville de Caserte (Campanie). Dans le dernier quart du IXe siècle, il écrivit une « Historia Langobardorum Beneventanorum » (ou « Historia Langabardorum Beneventarnorum »), une histoire des Lombards du sud de l'Italie, allant de l'an 774 (chute du royaume lombard) à l'an 889. Cette histoire, parvenue jusqu'à nous, narre notamment les incessants conflits de la région, surtout entre Lombards du duché bénéventin.
