Content targeting

Le content targeting, qu'on peut traduire par ciblage du contenu, est une méthode de marketing internet définie par le publicitaire français Gauthier Guillet en 2005.

Elle a été utilisée par des marques américaines et quelques entreprises françaises et italiennes du secteur du luxe à partir de 2005.

Description

En pratique, le content targeting consiste à orienter les recherches de l'internaute vers les sites et les messages élaborés par des entreprises ou des institutions, en multipliant les sources d'information et des participations ultra-ciblées au web social.

Bien que n'étant pas incompatible avec le behavioral targeting ou ciblage comportemental et poursuivant finalement les mêmes objectifs, le content targeting est une méthode de marketing résolument inverse puisqu'il s'agit d'imposer le message de la marque à l'internaute quel que soit son comportement, au lieu de proposer une offre ciblée en fonction du comportement sur le web (dans le cas du behavioral targeting).

En raison de son coût, le content targeting est réservé aux entreprises de premier plan, le plus souvent sur des secteurs sensibles. En effet, l'automatisation des tâches étant quasiment impossible, la politique de content targeting nécessite des équipes importantes et particulièrement bien formées.

L'expression "content targeting" est également utilisée pour désigner le ciblage par mots-clés dans les systèmes de bandeaux publicitaires de moteur de recherche, tels Adwords de Google.
