Le Probénécide est un diurétique.
En sport, il est détourné de son usage car il permet de masquer la prise de stéroïdes anabolisants. Il existe une interaction médicamenteuse entre probénécide et beta-lactamines. En effet ces deux composés entrent en compétition dans la fixation sur les transporteurs plasmatiques menant au rein, ainsi la métabolisation des béta-lactamines sera ralentie, donc leur demi-vie augmentée.
