Verne Gagne, de son vrai nom Laverne Clarence Gagne né le 26 février 1926 est un ancien catcheur professionnel américain et un ancien joueur de football américain. Il est l'ancien propriétaire / promoteur de la American Wrestling Association (AWA) basé à Minneapolis dans le Minnesota et qui était la fédération dominante dans le Middle West et le Manitoba pendant plusieurs années. Il occupa cette position jusqu'en 1991 et le rachat de la compagnie par la World Championship Wrestling (WCW).
Verne Gagne a été World Heavyweight Champion à 16 reprises: 10 fois AWA World Heavyweight Champion, 5 fois World Heavyweight Champion (Omaha version) et 1 fois IWA World Heavyweight Champion.

Verne Gagne rejoint la National Football League (NFL) peu de temps après avoir été drafté par les Chicago Bears au 16e tour (145e choix) de la NFL Draft de 1947[1].
Hall of Fame
En avril 2006, Verne Gagne est introduit au WWE Hall of Fame par son fils, Greg Gagne. Il est l'un des six catcheurs à faire partie du WWE Hall of Fame, du WCW Hall of Fame, du Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame, et du Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame.
