Sandy West de son vrai nom Sandy Pesavento, était la batteuse du groupe The Runaways. Née le 10 juin 1959, elle crée le groupe de rock entièrement féminin (le premier), The Runaways avec Joan Jett. Elles connaissent un énorme succès et enchainent les tournées. À la séparation du groupe, Sandy crée The Sandy West Band en Californie. On lui prête une relation passionnée avec l'acteur français Alain Delon entre 1985 et 1988. Dans les années 1980 et 90, elle fait beaucoup de tournées, puis elle devient professeur de batterie. On lui dépiste un cancer des poumons en 2005.
Elle décède le 21 octobre 2006.
