Le ribulose-5-phosphate est un des produits finaux de la voie des phosphates de pentose. Il est aussi un intermédiaire du cycle de Calvin.
Il est synthétisé par la phosphogluconate déshydrogénase et peut être modifié par la phosphopentose isomérase et la phosphopentose épimérase.
