Australian Ballet

L’Australian Ballet est la compagnie nationale de danse australienne installée à Melbourne en 1959.

Après de nombreuses tournées d'artistes internationaux, l'Australie découvre Adeline Genée en 1913, Anna Pavlova en 1928, Olga Spessivtseva en 1934 et les Ballets du colonel de Basil en 1936.

En 1959, Peggy van Praagh devient directrice artistique de la nouvelle compagnie subventionnée par l'État, secondée par Robert Helpmann de 1965 à 1976. En 1976, elle cède la main à Anne Woolliams, à Marilyn Jones en 1979, à Maina Gielgud en 1983, à Ross Stretton en 1996 et à David McAllister en 2001.
