Woodhenge est un site archéologique situé à 1 km au nord d'Amesbury, Wiltshire, Angleterre, non loin de Stonehenge.
Structure du monument
C'est une vaste construction circulaire du Néolithique moyen, présentant essentiellement des rangées concentriques de trous ayant contenu des poteaux en bois. On pense que ces poteaux ont soutenu une vaste toiture laissant un espace central dégagé.
Le site a été fouillé de 1926 à 1929 par Maud Cunnington. Des bornes en ciment ont été mises en place pour rendre compte de la disposition originale du bâtiment. L'entrée est libre.
Structures annexes
De nombreuses autres structures circulaires montrant les traces de trous ayant contenu des poteaux en bois ont été découvertes non loin de Stonehenge. On les désigne sous le terme général de henges par analogie avec Stonehenge.
Immédiatement au nord de Woodhenge s'étend le vaste enclos mégalithique de Durrington Walls[1].
