The Sheik of Araby est une chanson populaire américaine composée en 1921 par le musicien Ted Snyder et les paroliers Harry B. Smith et Francis Wheeler[1]. Attiré par le triomphe au box-office du film Le Cheik, le label Mills Music décide de sortir sans tarder un titre inspiré du film et surtout de son acteur vedette, le latin lover Rudolph Valentino[2]. Le succès est immédiat[3].

A la base, il s'agit d'une chanson Tin Pan Alley. Toutefois, elle est rapidement adoptée par des groupes de jazz, surtout ceux de la Nouvelle-Orléans, et devient un standard de jazz.

Les paroles de la chanson inspirent de nombreuses parodies et des jeux de mots[3], dont la satire The Sheik of Avenue B, composée l'année suivante par Harry Ruby et Burt Kalmar, pour Fanny Brice[2].
