Shirley Hazzard, née le 30 janvier 1931, est une auteure de romans et d'essais. Elle détient la citoyenneté britannique et américaine mais elle aime revendiquer aussi ses origines australiennes[1].
Vie
Hazzard est née à Sydney, en Australie et a commencé ses études à l'école de filles Queenwood à Mosman, dans la banlieue de Sydney mais elle a du la quitter en 1947 pour voyager à travers le Sud-Est asiatique avec ses parents. Son premier point de chute a été Hiroshima. Son père, un diplomate, l'a ensuite emmené à Hong Kong puis en Nouvelle-Zélande où son père était commissaire australien du Commerce.
En 1956, elle visita l'Italie et travailla pendant un an à Naples.
En 1963, elle épousa Francis Steegmuller, décédé en 1994. Depuis 2006, elle vit à New York, se rendant fréquemment à son domicile italien de Capri.
