Sem (en hébreu (שֵׁם « Nom, renommée, prospérité » à prononcer Chem) est un personnage de la Genèse (9, 18-27).
Histoire biblique
Sem est avec Ham et Japhet un des trois fils de Noé. Il est l’ancêtre d’Abraham et des fils de celui-ci, Isaac et Ismaël, d'où l'appellation de Sémites donnée aux descendants de ces patriarches bibliques.
Suite à une faute de son fils Ham, Noé maudit la descendance de ce dernier, notamment celle de son fils Canaan, qu'il voue à la servitude de Sem (Gn 9,27). Les fils de Sem pourront donc prendre la Terre de Canaan.
Selon la Bible, sa longévité fut de 600 ans.
