Reginald Joseph Mitchell alias Reginald Mitchell ou R. J. Mitchell né en 1895 à Talke (Angleterre) et mort d'un cancer le 11 Juin 1937 à Southampton fut un ingénieur et designer industriel britannique.
Après ses études il intègre l'usine aéronautique Supermarine Aviation Works à Southampton en 1916, poste qu'il occupera jusqu'à sa mort où il conçut les avions les plus rapides de son époque, participant à la Coupe Schneider dont le légendaire Spitfire en 1936 qui entrera en exploitation deux ans plus tard. La pureté de ses lignes, ses qualités de vol et son rôle dans la bataille d'Angleterre ont fait du Spitfire un mythe et l'un des avions militaires les plus connus au monde.
Le Spitfire est resté en service dans la Royal Air Force jusqu'en 1954.
