Raymond Scott est un compositeur et acteur américain né le 10 septembre 1908 à Brooklyn, New York (États-Unis), décédé le 8 février 1994 à Van Nuys (Californie). Il a inventé, entre autres, l'electronium.

Biographie

En 1937, Raymond Scott écrit une composition instrumentale intitulée Powerhouse, pour une émission de swing à la radio. Le thème se divise en deux mouvements dont le plus lent, au rythme syncopé, est resté célèbre pour ses multiples adaptations dans les cartoons. Ainsi dès 1943, aux studios Warner Bros., le compositeur Carl Stalling en a fait abondant usage dans près d'une quarantaine de cartoons des Looney Tunes. Plus récemment, on peut entendre Powerhouse dans des séries d'animation telles que Ren & Stimpy, Les Animaniacs et Les Simpson. Devenu un classique de l'animation, le thème est généralement associé à un univers robotique avec des actions répétitives, en particulier les chaînes de montage industrielles.
