Nassau William Senior (26 septembre 1790 - 4 juin 1864) était un économiste britannique. Selon John F. Bell, il était « le plus grand économiste anglais de la période entre Ricardo et John Stuart Mill[1] ».
Senior naît dans une famille anglaise d'origine espagnole et suit ses études de droit au Magdalen College d'Oxford. Il est admis au barreau en 1819, mais abandonne sa carrière peu après en raison d'un handicap physique. Il entreprend alors des études d'économie politique, et obtient un poste de professeur en 1825. Il est membre de plusieurs commissions royales, dont celle sur les Poor Laws en 1832, lois dont il propose l'abrogation en application de la dynamique des populations de Thomas Malthus[1].
Son principal ouvrage en économie est Political Economy, publié en 1850, qui reprend un article encyclopédique, An Outline of the Science of Political Economy, lui-même publié en 1836. Senior est le premier britannique qui introduit l'idée d'une demande basée sur l'utilité et d'une offre basée sur les coûts de production ; il s'agit d'une étape importante entre la théorie classique et le marginalisme.
