Kigeli V du Ruanda
Le Mwami Kigeli V Ndahindurwa (baptisé sous le nom de Jean-Baptiste), né en 1935 à Kamembe, régna sur le Rwanda de 1959 à 1961, date à laquelle la monarchie fut abolie. Comme tout membre de la famille royale, Kigeli V fait partie du groupe ethnique tutsi.
Couronnement et exil
Kigeli V succèda à son frère aîné, Mutara III, en 1959 après la mort de ce dernier dans des circonstances qui n'ont pas été élucidées. Il entreprit de poursuivre les réformes introduite par son frère, notamment le partage du pouvoir avec la majorité hutu, mais ne parvint pas à stabiliser le royaume. Soutenus par la Belgique, les Hutu se révoltèrent et renversèrent Kigeli V en 1961, alors qu'il se trouvait à Kinshasa pour rencontrer le secrétaire général des Nations unies, Dag Hammarskjöld. Il partit en exil en Ouganda.
Kigeli V obtint l'asile politique aux États-Unis en 1992 et vit actuellement à Washington. Il prend régulièrement la parole pour appeler son peuple à la paix et à la réconciliation. Il a fondé à cet effet la Fondation Kigeli V.
