Jurassic 5, parfois appelé J5, était un groupe de musique hip-hop alternatif américain, fondé en 1993, originaire de Los Angeles, Californie, États-Unis.

Histoire du groupe

Jurassic 5 est un groupe composé de quatre MCs : Chali 2na, Zaakir, Akil, Marc 7even, et de deux DJs : Cut Chemist et Nu-Mark. Jurassic 5 est l'union de deux groupes antérieurs, Rebels of Rhythm et Unity Committee.

Leur premier album est sorti en 1997. Le son de Jurassic 5 est légèrement old school tout en étant plus proche du funk que la plupart des autres groupes. Jurassic 5 est souvent considéré musicalement proche de groupes tels que The Roots ou De La Soul.

Après leur troisième album Power in Numbers sorti en 2003, le groupe tourne sans Cut Chemist ; le DJ quittera par la suite le groupe pour se consacrer à sa carrière solo. Le dernier album en date de Jurassic 5, intitulé Feedback, est sorti en 2006.

Depuis 2007, le groupe s'est séparé ; ses membres ont décidé de voguer en solo.

Leur chanson Improvise fait partie de la bande son du jeu vidéo Jet Set Radio sur Dreamcast. Plusieurs graffitis du jeu portent leur nom.
