Les incisives sont un type de dents de la denture.

Humain

Un humain possède huit incisives: deux incisives centrales supérieures, deux incisives latérales supérieures, deux incisives centrales inférieures et deux incisives latérales inférieures. On possède le même nombre de dents primaires que de dents permanentes.

Situées à l'avant des arcades dentaires, caractérisées par une couronne aplatie à bord libre tranchant, elles ont un rôle esthétique important, particulièrement les incisives maxillaires. Leur forme est variable : plutôt arrondies, carrées, triangulaires ; plus ou moins en avant ; serrées ou espacées (les « dents du bonheur »).

Elles ont également un rôle dans l'alimentation : elles servent à couper ou trancher les aliments. Au maxillaire, les incisives centrales sont nettement plus larges que les latérales. En revanche à la mandibule, les incisives latérales sont légèrement plus larges mésio-distalement que les incisives centrales.

Ruminants

Les incisives des ruminants servent à brouter. Les vaches n'ont pas de dents centrales sur leur maxillaire, alors que leur mandibule supporte six incisives placées contigûment au centre (en avant), entourées, à gauche et à droite, de deux canines.

Rongeurs

Les rongeurs, tel les castor ou les ragondins, ont des incisives qui croissent indéfiniment.

Carnivores

Les chats et les chiens n'ont pas le même nombre d'incisives que l'Homme (3 par hémiarcade contre 2 chez l'être humain), mais elles sont cependant beaucoup moins développées que leurs canines.

Préhistoire

Les incisives de bovidé ont été souvent utilisées comme élément de parure par plusieurs cultures préhistoriques notamment au gravettien.
