Agathe Backer-Grøndahl

Agathe Backer Grøndahl (1^er décembre 1847 - 4 juin 1907) était une pianiste et une compositrice norvégienne.

Elle naquit à Holmestrand, mais en 1857 elle partit pour Oslo avec sa famille, où elle étudia sous la direction d'Otto Winther-Hjelm, Halfdan Kjerulf et Ludvig Mathias Lindeman. À partir de 1865 elle étudia à Berlin, où elle obtint du succès grâce à son interprétation du cinquième concerto pour piano de Beethoven. Plus tard elle étudia avec Hans von Bülow à Florence, et Franz Liszt à Weimar en 1873.

Grøndahl a composé au total environ 400 morceaux répartis en 70 numéros d'opus, et fut un des personnages principaux de la scène musicale norvégienne ; elle fut une amie proche d'Edvard Grieg. Plus tard elle devint presque complètement sourde et fut obligée d'abandonner sa carrière de soliste.

Agathe Backer Grøndahl mourut à Oslo à 59 ans. Elle est surtout connue pour ses morceaux pour piano et ses chants.
