Origine
Domnal Midi était le fils de Murchad Midi mac Diarmato(mort en 715)[1] roi d' Uisnech puis de Mide du Clan Cholmáin des Ui Neill du Sud et d’Ailpin fille de Comgall mac Saran roi de Delbna Mór.
Règne
Domnall Midi obtient le titre d’Ard ri Érenn après avoir battu et tué son prédécesseur Áed Allán mac Fergaile du Cenél nEógain à la bataille de Seredmag 743[2]
Contrairement à son prédécesseur, Domnall Midi maintint de bonnes relations avec les Uí Dúnlainge qui contrôlaient le nord Leinster et dont le roi devint son gendre.
Domnall Midi laissa le souvenir d’un souverain pacifique et pieux qui se retira par deux fois dans un monastère. Il mourut en décembre 763[3] en laissant le titre d’Ard ri Érenn à Niall Frossach le demi-frère cadet de son prédécesseur.
Union et postérité
Domnall Midi avait épousé Ailbine fille d’Ailill mac Cenn Fáelad roi d’Ard Ciannachta dont :
- Eithne morte en 795[4] épouse de Bran Ardchenn mac Muiredaig Uí Dúnlainge roi de Leinster.
