Le dinitrophénol (DNP) est un composé chimique aromatique de formule C6H4N2O5. Il s'agit d'un cycle benzénique substitué par un groupement hydroxyle (phénol) et deux groupements nitro. Le dinitrophénol existe sous la forme de six isomères :
- le 2,3-dinitrophénol, numéro CAS 66-56-8
- le 2,4-dinitrophénol, numéro CAS 51-28-5
- le 2,5-dinitrophénol, numéro CAS 329-71-5
- le 2,6-dinitrophénol, numéro CAS 573-56-8
- le 3,4-dinitrophénol, numéro CAS 577-71-9
- le 3,5-dinitrophénol, numéro CAS 586-11-8
Aucun de ces composés n'existe à l'état naturel; ce sont donc tous des produits de synthèse.
Le dinitrophénol est un découplant de la chaîne respiratoire mitochondriale.
