Deborah Harry (parfois appelée Debbie Harry ou Blondie (incorrectement)) est une chanteuse et actrice américaine née le 1^er juillet 1945 (64 ans) à Miami (Floride). Elle est connue comme étant la chanteuse du groupe new-yorkais Blondie.

Biographie

Deborah Harry a été adoptée à l'âge de trois mois par Catherine et Richard Harry Smith, propriétaires d'une boutique de cadeaux à Hawthorne, dans le New Jersey. Elle a suivi des études à la Hawthorne High School et au Centenary College.

Elle a déménagé pour New York à la fin des années 1960 et a travaillé un an comme secrétaire au bureau de New York de la BBC Radio. Elle a aussi été serveuse au Max's Kansas City et dans un Dunkin' Donuts, danseuse à Union City, dans le New Jersey, et Playboy Bunny.

Sa carrière a débuté avec un groupe folk, the Wind in the Willows, avant qu'elle rejoigne un trio féminin, The Stilettos, au début des années 1970. Le groupe d'accompagnement incluait son petit ami, le guitariste Chris Stein, avec lequel elle forma Blondie au milieu des années 1970. Le nom du groupe viendrait des sifflets des hommes sur le passage de Debbie. Blondie se produisit de manière régulière au Max's Kansas City et au CBGB's (elle découvrit les Fleshtones) à New York avant de connaître un succès commercial international à la fin des années 1970 et au début des années 1980.

Toujours en activité, Debbie Harry a travaillé en 2006 avec Moby et a sorti un tout nouvel album à l'automne 2007, Necessary Evil.
