Brunehilde (mythologie)
Brunehilde en français ou Brynhildr en vieux norrois ou Brünhild en allemand est une valkyrie de la mythologie nordique et germanique. Dans les sources scandinaves (Cycle de Sigurd, Saga des Völsungar et les poèmes héroïques de l’Edda notamment), elle est d'abord fiancée à Siegfried (ou Sigurd) avant d'épouser Gunther (ou Gunnar). Elle provoque l'assassinat de Siegfried avant de se suicider. La Chanson des Nibelungen présente un récit comparable bien que plus éloigné du mythe germanique original.
Origine du personnage
Le personnage est inspiré de la princesse wisigothe Brunehilde, mariée au roi mérovingien Sigebert Ier en 567. Le thème du fratricide, ainsi que les relations avec les Huns constituent une partie historique de Brunehilde.
L'Anneau du Nibelung
Richard Wagner en fait un personnage central, sous la graphie « Brünnhilde », de la tétralogie L'Anneau du Nibelung. Elle apparaît dans La Walkyrie, Siegfried et Le Crépuscule des dieux.
Brunehilde au cinéma
- En 2004, dans le film allemand L'Anneau sacré (Ring of the Nibelings), Brunehilde est interprétée par l'actrice américaine blonde Kristanna Loken.
- En 2002, dans le téléfilm allemand Die Nibelungen, Brunehilde est interprétée par l'actrice allemande brune Judith Rosmair.
