Saint Boniface IV, moine bénédictin né dans la région de Marsi, pape de 608 à 615. L’Eglise catholique le célèbre le 8 mai.
Biographie
Il fut élu pape dix mois après la mort de son prédécesseur Boniface III.
L'empereur Phocas lui ayant fait don de l'ancien Panthéon de Rome, il le consacra à la Vierge sous le nom de Sancta Maria ad martyres (Sainte Marie aux martyrs), il y fit transporter de nombreux corps de martyrs des catacombes.
Il eut aussi le souci de l'organisation de l'Église en Angleterre.
Le 23 août 613 il accorde le pallium à l'archevêque d'Arles Florien[1], peu de mois, semble-t-il après la nomination de ce dernier[2].
Boniface IV mourut le 8 mai 615, son corps repose dans le transept gauche de la basilique Saint-Pierre. Il est fêté le 8 mai[3].
