Paul Volcker
Paul Adolph Volcker (né le 5 septembre 1927) est un économiste américain, directeur de la Réserve fédérale des États-Unis (Federal Reserve Board) de 1979 à 1987.
Il doit sa notoriété à sa victoire sur la stagflation des années 1970 aux États-Unis, qu'il a obtenue par la limitation de la croissance de la masse monétaire et la hausse des taux d'intérêt, conformément aux prescriptions monétaristes. L'inflation, qui atteint un point haut à 13,5 % en 1981, est ramenée à 3,2 % en 1983 et maintenue par la suite à un niveau bas, au prix d'une lourde récession en 1982-1983.
Plus récemment, il a été chargé par l'ONU d'enquêter sur les manipulations du programme « Pétrole contre nourriture » de l'ONU (Affaire Pétrole contre nourriture). À l'issue de ses travaux, la commission d'enquête qu'il préside rédige un rapport de 623 pages appelé « rapport Volcker ».
Le 26 novembre 2008, le président-élu Barack Obama annonce sa nomination en tant que directeur du Conseil pour la reconstruction économique, nouvellement créé.
