Provolution

La provolution (contraction d’évolution proactive et traduction de l’anglais provolve), plus connu sous son appellation anglaise d’uplift, est une forme encore fictive d’évolution, popularisée par le cycle de science-fiction de l’Élévation de David Brin, mais que l’on peut faire remonter jusqu’à L'Île du docteur Moreau.

Contrairement à l’évolution naturelle, où les organismes se modifient eux-mêmes au fil du temps, ou aux évolutions forcées, comme celle que prône la philosophie transhumaniste, la provolution est une sorte de “xéno-évolution”, en ce sens que c’est une espèce qui décide d’améliorer une autre espèce en lui procurant, par exemple, l’intelligence.
