Underture est un morceau instrumental du groupe de rock britannique The Who, paru en 1969 sur l'opéra-rock Tommy.
Caractéristiques
Dans l'histoire de Tommy, cette chanson survient juste après Acid Queen. Le jeune Tommy est sous l'emprise du LSD; cette chanson représente ses sensations et ses hallucinations intérieures. C'est un instrumental long de dix minutes. Il s'agit en fait d'une version bien plus longue de Sparks, le thème étant répété jusqu'à l'obsession. L'ambiance ici est particulièrement éthérée et onirique, l'utilisation d'écho et d'harmonies vocales renforçant ce constat.
A noter que le thème principal de cette chanson apparaît sur l'album The Who Sell Out, durant la chanson Rael 1. Dans une version antérieure de l'album, Underture s'intitulait Dream (Psychedelic)[1]. Cette chanson n'était pas jouée en concert lors des représentations de Tommy.
