La techstep est un genre musical qui se caractérise par son atmosphère obscure renvoyant à la science-fiction. Il a été influencé par la musique industrielle et la techno avec laquelle il partage l'utilisation d'instruments comme le synthétiseur et la boîte à rythmes. La techstep reste néanmoins un sous-genre de la drum and bass, notamment par sa structure musicale.
