Le Simputer désigne une spécification d'assistant numérique performant destiné à favoriser l'accès à l'informatique aux habitants du tiers monde, même non alphabétisés.
Cet ordinateur, mis au point en Inde, fonctionne sous Linux et les sociétés PicoPeta et Encore Technologies en fabriquent divers modèles depuis mars 2002.
Son prix de 9 000 roupies (230 €) et sa capacité à stocker les données personnelles (courriers, comptes, etc) de chacun de ses utisateurs sur une carte mémoire amovible le destinent avant tout à un usage communautaire.
4000 unités ont été vendues en 2005, principalement aux classes moyennes.
