Mohammed III du Maroc
Mohammed III ben Abdallah (en arabe : محمد الثالث بن عبد الله الخطيب), fut sultan du Maroc, (1757-1790). Né vers 1720 à Meknes, il décède en 1790 à Fès.
Même s'il ne devint officiellement sultan qu'en 1757 à la mort de son père Abdallah IV du Maroc, il prend en mains le pays à compter de 1746 pendant 44 ans.
Roi itinérant, il ne choisit pas de capitale particulière, bien qu'il se fit construire un grand palais à Rabat, conférant à cette petite cité le rang de capitale impériale. Il fonda Essaouira, entretint de bons rapports avec toutes les puissances d'Orient ou d'Occident. En particulier, il permet au Maroc d'être le tout premier pays à reconnaître les tout nouveaux États-Unis.[1]
