MSNBC est une chaîne d'information en continu du câble diffusée aux États-Unis et au Canada. Son nom est la combinaison de Microsoft (MS) et de NBC (nom générique de chaîne appartenant à NBC Universal). Elle a été lancée le 15 juillet 1996.
Rétrospectivement, on remarque que depuis une dizaine d'années, la chaîne MSNBC a su se doter d'une identité politique. Perçue outre-atlantique comme l'ennemi juré du réseau FOX News, la chaîne est teintée du courant d'idée libéral (au sens anglo saxon du terme, qui s'oppose aux États-Unis aux conservateurs). Cette chaîne serait donc (contrairement à Fox News), plutôt de gauche, et donc plutôt favorable au Parti démocrate (divers études et sondages confirment cette notion).
La chaîne est détenue à 82% par NBC Universal et à 12% par Microsoft.
